Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s NRCC Takes Aim at UT02

[SALT LAKE CITY, UT] – Yesterday, recently elected House Speaker Mike Johnson took aim at Utah’s Second Congressional District in his quest to further far-right, fundamentalist policies. The National Republican Congressional Committee released a fundraising drive based on fears UT02 could go blue, with Democrat Kathleen Riebe running a strong, message-based campaign, and opponent Celeste Maloy largely silent on issues of consequence. In response to Mike Johnson’s NRCC campaign, Sen. Riebe said the following:

“Mike Johnson and Celeste Maloy are running scared. A national, no exception abortion ban, repeal of marriage equality, and massive cuts to Social Security and Medicare have no place in Utah’s Second District. While the NRCC attempts to come to the rescue, my opponent's campaign has been funded off corporate PAC donations, the Koch network, and far-right interest groups. I’m proud to run a campaign driven by the grassroots, small dollar donations of thousands of Utahns–that tells me our message of unity, common sense, and bipartisan progress resonates” said Riebe. “Tuesday’s election results tell us there are no solid “red” states–freedom will triumph over fear when put to the test, nationwide. I’m confident Utah’s Second is ready to send a message to Mike Johnson and Celeste Maloy: keep your Washington, DC culture wars and extremism out of our state.”
